Greetings to all you Bulldogs from the New Counselor on the block. I would like to introduce myself and let you know that my door is always open for you to stop in. I am available by phone also.
My name is Edith Deuel. I am originally from a small town in central Nebraska. I moved here from Valentine, Nebraska, where I lived while I worked as the grades 9-12 Academic Counselor for the last 4 years at St. Francis Indian School on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and a Masters of Arts in Developmental Counseling from Chadron State College.
I have 2 children from a prior marriage. My daughter, Charlotte, is married to Dave and they have 4 beautiful girls, Chelsee-13, Haley-11, Courtney-8 and Katie-3. They live on a farm just south of Trenton, Nebraska, where Charlotte is a stay at home mom and Dave works for Valley Pivot Irrigation Company. My son, LeRoy is still single and lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he works for U.S. Tire Company setting up new stores all over the country.
I have worked in schools all over the State of Nebraska, including Litchfield, Winnebago, Lynch, Lodgepole, Madrid, Kearney, Amherst, S-E-M, Elm Creek, Wilcox, Axtell, Gibbon, Shelton, Wood River, Minden, Pleasanton, Ravenna and Grand Island.
Over the years, I have done many things besides work in schools. I spent 1 year in the Air Force during the Vietnam era, and 16 1/2 years in the Nebraska Guard as a Records Specialist. I have been a Rural Domestic Manager (Farm Wife), cook and waitress in a diner, cosmetologist, bakery assistant, trainer of adults with special needs, outbound telemarketer, inbound order consultant and customer service consultant for Cabela's, Avon sales representative and a Tupperware party consultant.
I enjoy reading historical fiction, crocheting and doing embroidery work. Spending time with my grandchildren is also a high priority for me. My husband, Patrick, and I are also interested in genealogy. He has traced his Deuel family back to France. I have traced my father's Hyatt family back to the east coast in the 1700's.
You may wonder if my husband is the man that was featured on "The Half Ton Man" program on TLC and Discovery...and the answer is "yes!" He is getting around a whole lot better now, but we both are still working on losing weight. It is a process of many little steps. We appreciate all the words of encouragement we receive when we are out and about.
I look forward to meeting my students and their families. Call me anytime and be sure to stop and talk to me when you see me around.
