FAMOUS ARCHAEOLOGISTS RETURN TO CLASSROOM!
by Julie Cody & JoEllen Underwood
January 03, 2005
Indy & Jonesy, infamous archaeologists, aka Mrs. Underwood and Mrs. Cody, are making their second out of three appearances in the 6th grade social studies classes. Each skit deals with the subject under discussion in the social studies curriculum. This is the sixth year that this infamous duo has performed.
The first skit introduces the students to the relationship between artifacts and societies.
Through humor, Indy & Jonesy find a lost tomb with a number of artifacts. Imagining what each item would represent and predicting the type of society to use this artifact is the basis for the presentation. Students are given five artifacts to develop and propose their usage and type of civilization.
"The Case of the Christmas Treasure" is the second skit of the duo. Class discussion on trade between Europe and the colonies has preceded this skit. The book, "Treasure Island" has been read to the students during this unit. Students decode a secret message by examining and solving clues sent by "Captain Flint. " Indy & Jonesy discover the treasure after students have unraveled the case. Treasure is then shared among the students.
The third skit will be in the spring when the duo gets lost in the Amazon!
