Cinco De Mayo

Becky Herian

May 19, 2004

On Wednesday, May 5, Emerson Second Grade students had the opportunity to study Cinco De Mayo, a Mexican festival. Students had the opportunity to learn Spanish from a great group of Alliance High School students under the guidance of Mrs. Marie Cervantes and assisted by Mrs. Becky Herian and Mrs. Linda McMeekin.

Second graders learned color words, names of clothing, sang songs with the high school students and completed a paper activity. The students also learned to make a Mexican craft with the help of the high school students, Mrs. Susan Blaylock, and Mrs. Angie Foster.

Emerson school's bilingual para Mrs. Sandra Soto provided informational materials as well as memorabilia for a Mexican display. Mrs. Cervantes shared interesting memorabilia that she has collected over the years.

We ended our day with delicious churros provided for the students by La Villa restaurant owners Mr. and Mrs. Luis Sanchez.
