Alliance, Nebraska

HIGH SCHOOL

(Ninth through Twelfth Grade)
The Alliance School District is very proud of the education foundation established by our high school faculty.  It is from this foundation the school provides for the educational needs of the students.  These needs are based on societal needs, individual needs and the needs for the self development.  The high school provides a broad curriculum and sufficient depth to allow education for all students.  In order to assist our students in career making decisions, the high school has a Career Prospects Program established by the Nebraska Career  Information System directed by the guidance department.

High School students are given an opportunity to participate in a well-rounded extra curricular program.  The activities range from athletics to music and drama.

The high school administration and faculty believe we provide an excellent curriculum and supportive services for high school students.  Our students are prepared to further their education or enter into a job market upon completion of high school.  Approximately 55% of our students go on to higher education.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

(Sixth through Eighth Grade)
The Alliance Middle School houses students in grades 6th, 7th and 8th.  The concept of a middle school is one of transition in education and works to promote exploratory and discovery types of programs.  They experience many and various changes about themselves.  They are developing and organizing knowledge and concepts necessary for everyday functioning.  To meet the growth and needs of students at AMS, curriculum programs are offered to give a variety of experiences.  Basic studies being offered are English, math, social studies, science and physical education.  Elective courses include:  art, industrial technology, band, choir, home economics and computers.  Students may also participate in a variety of extra curricular activities.

SUPPORT SERVICES

Special Education:  (SpEd office location)

The Alliance Public Schools Special Education Department provides services to handicapped students from ages 0 to 21 years.  The Special Education Director is Mr. Kevin Wilkinson.

Volunteers

The school district has an active volunteer program.  A coordinator is on staff to place volunteers with teachers who request them.

ELEMENTARY

(Kindergarten through Fifth Grade)

The Alliance Elementary Schools believe that we have the responsibility for initiating the education of all school age children from every culture and background.  It is our belief that students must be nurtured in their thinking powers, values, attitudes and skill needs for effective living and working in a democratic society.

Classes in grades kindergarten through fifth grade are self-contained where the students receive instruction from the same teacher.  This provides the students the opportunity to receive their educational experience through a variety of techniques and approaches.  Beginning with grade one, students are instructed in the areas of physical education, art, music, remedial reading and the library sciences by curriculum specialists.  A full complement of special education classes are available for those special students needing additional instruction services.  Band instruction begins in sixth grade.

The curriculum in the Elementary schools is designed to provide students a continuous education pattern regardless of what school they attend.  The strength of this effort rests on the comprehensive approach to reading, language, arts and mathematics.  Standardized tests results verify the achievement of our students by their favorable standing among state and national schools.
