Genealogy Links (Family History)
Genealogy is an excellent means by which to "personalize" history for many students.  A fair amount of regional history is also available on these sites.  The following are some of the best free genealogy sites presently available.

Rootsweb Home - Type an ancestor's name in the box labeled "Search RootsWeb.com" for a free search of many databases at once.
FamilySearch - One of the most complete genealogy archives in the world.  If you cannot find your name here, you must be really rare.  :-)
1880 United States Census - The entire census online.
Homestead Records - If your ancestors homesteaded, you will likely find their names here.  You might even be able to view their original homestead document online.
Social Security DI
World Connect - Find family trees that have been put on the internet by (distant) relatives.
GenCircles - Find family trees that have been put on the internet by (distant) relatives.

Google - Search your family name here.

---------

Nebraska Genealogy Web Online Library - Here you can access the complete texts of some of Nebraska's oldest history books.  Included are the biographies of many early Nebraska settlers.
Box Butte County, Nebraska - Box Butte County natives, search the Box Butte County GenWeb site for information on your ancestors.
USGenWeb Search - Select a state from the list, type your last name in the box and click "Search."
USGenWeb States - Links to the GenWeb sites of each of the fifty states.
Immigrant Ships Transcribers' Guild - Provides passenger lists for ships that brought immigrants to America over a 300-year period.  Several thousand ships have been indexed here, with thousands remaining to be added.
