5.025 8th-Grade Celebration
8th-grade students who receive one or more N/Cs as a Final Grade for either a semester class or a year-long class, during the 8th-grade year, will not be eligible to participate in the promotion ceremony. Students may also be excluded from participating in the ceremony for disciplinary reasons as well. Students who are ineligible to participate in the promotion ceremony may be promoted to the 9th grade.

5.030 Promotion/Retention
Because the public schools of the district are dedicated to the best total and continuous development of each pupil, the professional staff is expected to place pupils at the grade level best suited to them academically, socially and emotionally.

Pupils will normally progress annually from grade to grade. Exceptions may be made when, in the judgment of the professional staff, such exceptions are in the best educational interest of the pupils involved. Exceptions will always be made after prior notification and explanation to each pupilís parents, but the final decision will rest with the school authorities.
